TEAM REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 4, 2011

Several members have expressed interest in purchasing Carhartt Jackets with the UAW wheel embroidered on the back as we have done in the past. We have checked with our vendors and found that Carhartt is no longer made in the U.S.A. Therefore we would be looking at a comparable King Louie (Cumber Land Brand) which looks identical to the Carhartt. These are hooded and thermal lined and can be ordered either black or duck brown. Prices will be approximately $100 - $125 for the jacket with the large red/white UAW wheel on the back and a small logo on the left chest. You can add your name to the right chest for an additional fee. A $100 deposit will be required when ordering. Call Kim Trout (630) 896-9370 with any questions or to place an order.
The Education Committee is hosting a New Member Orientation on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. This is intended for anyone who would like to understand how their union works. If you would like to get involved but are not sure how to do so, this would be a great opportunity to educate yourself. Remember our union is like anything else in life, it is what you put into it. Our union is and always will be as strong as our members. If you would like to see things change for the better, it’s time to put forth a little effort. Call and reserve your spot for one of the three classes, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
The UAW Local 145 Children’s Christmas Party will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 form 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the UAW Local 145 Union Hall, 1700 Oakton Road, Montgomery, IL. Hot dogs, corn dogs, chips, cookies, and lemonade will be served for lunch. Have your picture taken with Santa. This event is sponsored by the UAW Local 145 Standing Committees. Bring your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to see Santa and have a good time.
The Community Services Committee is sponsoring a raffle of gift cards from the Westfield Shopping Center. There will be three gift cards raffled, $250, $125 and $75. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 tickets for $5.00. See an Executive Board member for tickets or purchase them at the Membership Christmas Party on Friday, December 16, 2011, where the drawing will be held.
The UAW Local 145 Membership Christmas Party will be Friday, December 16, 2011. All members in good standing are invited to attend. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for those on third shift. Lunch will be served from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for those on second shift. Dinner will be served from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for day shift. There will be ham & turkey raffles and other prizes throughout the day. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
As we all begin making plans for the holidays, please remember when at work to keep your mind on your job. Don’t let your mind wonder off to what you’ll be doing with your family and leave yourself exposed to accident or injury. We want our members to go home from work the same way they came in, with all their fingers and toes! The last thing your family wants this season is for you to get hurt or injured on the job. Stay focused while at work and go home safe at the end of the day.
This is the last year of the vacation payments as in the past and this year’s vacation payment will be paid by December 15. Starting next year vacation will be paid as it is used, as a pay continuance. There will no longer be any vacation time carried over to the next year. If you have any vacation time left or have been scheduled to work during shutdown and wish to use that vacation time it must be done before the end of the year.
The new t-shirts and hats are in! Blue “Stand with Illinois” shirts will be sold for $11 each. New camouflage hats will be sold for $10 each. Stop in and get yours today while supplies last.
